IMPACT Community Action to Receive $7.5M to Continue to Help Columbus Residents Avoid Eviction and Homelessness through CARES Act
COLUMBUS, OH – Mayor Andrew Ginther alongside Councilwoman Shayla Favors announced that the City of Columbus will provide an additional $7.5M to IMPACT Community Action’s IMPACT Hope Fund, which now totals over $10M, to continue to help Columbus residents avoid eviction and homelessness.
“Although in some ways life is returning to normal and individuals, and businesses, are moving forward, we know that many families are still struggling,” says Councilwoman Shayla Favor. “Grappling with paying rent, childcare costs, food, and other basic necessities was difficult for some before the pandemic hit, and it continues to be an even greater challenge now.”
The goal of the IMPACT Hope Fund is to stabilize families and prevent our shelter centers of becoming overwhelmed. Many federal programs are coming to an end so it is more important than ever that the IMPACT Hope Fund continues to provide relief to families in need.
There are currently 25 local organizations who have partnered with our organization as application sites. Most recently we have added Dress for Success, Life Care Alliance, Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services (E.T.S.S.), and the National Center for Urban Solutions as trusted partners. These organizations will serve as contact points where Columbus Residents can receive assistance in the application process for rental and mortgage assistance.
“The HOPE Fund has become bigger than IMPACT, this really is a HOPE Fund for our community,” says Bo Chilton, CEO at IMPACT Community Action. “We’ve served nearly 1,000 customers to date,” continued Chilton. “With these dollars, we will be able to increase the limit, in terms of eligibility, and we are going to be able to assist many more people.”
IMPACT Community Action has been serving Columbus, Ohio’s most vulnerable in areas of housing stability, workforce development programing, energy efficiency and a bevy of other coordinating services during this COVID-19 pandemic.
