Empowerment Services Build-Up

What is the Build-Up Program? 

Build- Up is a career development program that provides a nationally recognized Certification in Construction Trades. 

Who is eligible? 

Franklin County residents age 18 and older who are at below 125% of Federal Poverty guidelines. 

How do I apply? 

Participants may call 614.453.1622 or 614.453.1659 to schedule a phone interview. During the interview participants will learn about the program, start dates, needed documentation and be provided an appointment to complete the intake process. 

How long is the program?

Build-Up offers up to eight weeks of CORE, curriculum-based training through the National Center for  Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Once completed participants will receive up to 12 weeks of hands on training instruction that prepares participants for success in the construction field.

When are the courses offered? 

Build-Up is a year- round course offering. Core classes are offered Monday through Friday from 1p.m. until 4 p.m. Hands on training is offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.   

Is there a construction site? 

Build-Up classes are provided in the construction LAB, on site- at IMPACT’s Headquarters 711 Southwood Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43207. 

What are the programs benefits?

Build-Up is a stipend connected program where participants earn as they achieve benchmarked  goals. Incentives are up to $1,200 for program completion. Participants may be referred to other  IMPACT programs and services and receive transportation assistance and on-going case management.    

What do I earn once I complete? 

Participants earn a National Center for Construction Education and Research Certification and a Blue   Card. These two components make participants eligible to apply for employment in the construction field. Participants will also be provided a complete tool kit and personal protective equipment to be work ready after graduation.
