Home Weatherization

The goal of IMPACT's Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) is to reduce the energy consumption of low-income households to make their utility bills more affordable.

Homes without weatherization cost more money to heat and even more money to cool; they can complicate breathing conditions such as asthma and COPD. Inefficient homes can also mask undetected safety hazards. Through energy efficient improvements, safety checks and consumer education, HWAP takes a holistic approach to maximizing  energy  and dollar savings

Services may include attic, wall and basement insulation, blower-door testing for air leakages and heating system repairs or replacements. The program also identifies and repairs health, safety and comfort-related problems common in older homes often occupied by low-income families. The program is funded by the Ohio Department of Development's Office of Energy Efficiency.

( US Secretary of Energy Chu with IMPACT Weatehrization Staff)

The U.S. Department of Energy touted Ohio as the leading Weatherization program in the country.   With 1,018 homes weatherized, IMPACT was one of the leading programs in the State of Ohio and throughout the country.

With funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), IMPACT created 42 full-time jobs with benefits. These jobs provided a real opportunity for unemployed workers to earn a prevailing wage and take care of their families. We were also very proud to secure additional corporate dollars from American Electric Power that enabled us to maintain all 42 staff members beyond the stimulus funding period.

This is an example of both a successful stimulus funded program and a successful partnership between IMPACT Community Action and the Corporate Community.
